The NCO commissioned renowned composer Guan Nai-chong to compose The Beautiful Taiwan. Mr.Kwan is well known among people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. People laud him as a poet of romantic music, writing with his left hand and conducting with his right hand. Inspiration for this piece comes from Taiwanese folk ballads and festivities. The twelve chapters represent the twelve months of the four seasons, presenting a panorama of the landscape and humanities in Taiwan.
The audience can follow Peach Blossom Crossing the Fort and Tea-picking from the beginning of the year, pass over green hills with spring flowers budding everywhere. After the sprouting season, when the temperature increases, one can almost smell the perspiration from farmers' summer tilling through Plough Song. Immediately after, Sudden Downpour and Rainy Day portray the changeable weather of Taiwan, while announcing the arrival of a bountiful autumn. The sober melody of Tayal Harmonica Song inaugurates winter, a time for all creatures to rest and gather their strength in waiting for the coming year. This work not only represents Taiwan's abundance, but also the vitality of this land.
