About the Performance
"Life of Justice Bao Revisited" combines Chinese music storytelling and the documentary book of "Bones of Justice Bao". This production is the first attempt of the kind by the renowned storyteller Ye Yi-jun, and her collaboration with the contemporary theatre director Fu Hong-zheng is expected to take the audience into a wonderland of music and storytelling.
"Life of Justice Bao Revisited" is based on traditional Chinese chaptered novels about Bao and contemporary documentary literature. The audience will experience a journey through time from "The Case of the Black Basin" to the reform and opening up in modern China to uncover the mystery of the bones of Justice Bao.
The play is also Ye's first work which includes pictures and articles collected in a fieldwork project. During performance, the items are turned into creative images and projected to the stage to spark more imagination.
Blending the crisp storytelling of Northern China, delicate ballad singing of Southern China, and theatrical magnificence of Peking opera, "Life of Justice Bao Revisited" will be an eye-opener for the audience!
