 About the Performance

Many early Hakka settlements formed around either big or small huofang ("kitchens" or "cookhouses"). Together inside Hakka huofang dwelt groups of people who were related by blood or surname. Due to particular lineal traditions and lifestyle requirements, clans developed different huofang ecologies. The traditions of each huofang had their own distinguishing features, mutually exchanging and assimilating all manner of traditional skills and talents, resulting in a rich and multivariate folk culture all circulated and handed down within Hakka settlements. This concert perforce invites people of all ages together in friendship to participate in penetrating the construction of Hakka music from generation to generation. At the same time, we invite our audience to feel the vitality of Hakka culture in an unending stream of light and joyful music.

The Performing Group│Bighearted Hakka Music Performing Art Group

Bighearted Hakka Music Performing Art Group was founded in 2005 by Master Lai Ren-Cheng with the aim of promoting Hakka culture as well as its study, development, propagation, and enhancement, advancing communication between all ethnic groups. This group fully utilizes Hakka art and culture, working toward the actualization of native art and cultural activities in the long term. Imploring the development of Taiwanese Hakka mountain songs to the upper echelons, Bighearted Hakka Music Performing Art Group actively promotes works of Hakka art and culture, allowing for the evolution and enrichment of cultural tradition commensurate and compatible with the times in order to better manifest the worth of traditional art.
