About the Exhibition
Among the Cold War between USA and USSR, and tensions across the Taiwan Strait, with the support of the Society of the Divine Word and those who adored Chinese culture, the China-Europe Working Group (Arbeitsgemeinschaft China-Europa), currently the East Asian institute (Ostasien-Institut), was established in Bonn in 1964. It was in this city 9,500km away from Taipei that enthusiasts studied and promote Chinese music and arts to encourage cultural exchanges between the Orient and the Occident. In 2018 the East Asian Institute handed over some historical relics to the National Centre for Traditional Arts. This exhibition presents how a German institution joined up with Taiwanese scholars to preserve musical and cultural heritage.
