 About the Performance 

"Matinee in the Rain" is a flagship production for the 202021 Taiwan Traditional Theatre Festival. Co-presented by Chun-Mei Taiwanese Opera Troupe and Golden Bough Theatre, this play is brought to you by leading artists in Taiwan, including the playwright Chi Wei-jan (winner of the National Award for Arts), director Wang Rong-yu, and music programmer Lee Che-yi (winner of the Golden Melody Awards). The play features notable young sheng performer Kuo Chun-mei and Wang Rong-yu. Other performers include young dan performer Chien Chia-yi and young sheng performer Sun Kai-lin from Chun-Mei, and Shih Tung-lin, Lee Yun-chung, Kao Ming-chien and Tseng Hua-hsuan from Golden Bough.

Chun-Mei Taiwanese Opera Troupe is known for its innovative and pioneering productions. The troupe has been performing throughout Taiwan since its founding by the noted performer Kuo Chun-mei in 2000. Since 2004, the troupe has won support from the Ministry of Culture, and has been nominated for and won several Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music. Golden Bough Theatre was founded in 1993. The group believes that "a culture rooted in its society and heritage moves people most." Combining traditional performances and modern theatre, Golden Bough Theatre presents a unique aesthetic, with strong local color.
