Taiwan Theater Museum (Ilan) → Luodong Sports Park → Dongshan River Water Park → Tofu Cape (Su-Ao)
pic First stop: Taiwan Theater Museum (Ilan)
The Taiwan Theater Museum, located
inside of the Ilan County Culture
Center, is the first public museum
of theatrical arts in Taiwan as
well as the first museum in
Ilan. A decade in planning,
the Taiwan Theater Museum,
though small in scale, is now
a full-fledged museum
complete with a service/
souvenir area, three exhibition
halls, a video room, an
audiovisual library, a research room and an

administration/collection area. It is now fully capable of hosting exhibitions, shows, seminars and studies, displaying collections and carrying out independent publishing. The Museum has a rich collection of Taiwanese folk theater and music. The Taiwan Theater Museum is definitely worth a visit for those interested in theatre.

pic Second Stop: Dongshan River Water Park
  Dongshan River Water Park
The Dongshan River Water Park is based on the themes of ‘Water’ and ‘Greenery’ and was built around the natural features of the Dongshan River. It is an open space surrounded by water and greenery and is suitable for a wide range of activities including tourism, recreation, relaxation, and education.

Attractions:
pic 1.
Tourist Center: Provides information, tour guides, emergency rescues and broadcasting, a lost-and-found service and taxi services.
pic 2.
Audiovisual Room: Periodically displays the sights and sounds of the Lanyang Plain and Dongshan River.
pic 3.
3. Outdoor Theater: This is a semi-circular step theater built on water. Looking out from the highest point of the theater, you will see a lineup of five stones that project through the neck of Turtle Island (Guishan Island). There is a boat pier on the right side, a wading pool on the left side and at the rear-left there is a water park designed for families.
pic 4.
Wading Pool: This is composed of several shallow pools with water of ankle height. The white stones represent fences and the little crescent walls represent leisurely swimming ducks. The whole display represents a picture of duck growers in Ilan.
pic 5.
The Mosaics: These are art works of 800 children made from shells, porcelain chips, ceramic chips and marble balls
pic 6.
The Double Dragon Water Park: This park has a green dragon at the north made of green mosaic. The small mound looking out to sea is the head of the green dragon. The south side is characterized by a yellow dragon made of yellow mosaic. The dragon head faces the mountains. The two dragons hover over the shore from a Birdseye view over the river.
pic 7.
The Crouching Dragon Bridge is shaped after a dragon boat. The little holes on the sides are the holes for the oars. Under the bridge is the entrance of Dongshan River into the Water Park as well as an access point for real dragon boats.
pic 8.
The Red Dragon Boat Yard is a two storey building. The first storey stores dragon boats and the second storey displays western style canoes. A terrace on the second floor is open to the public for viewing the park and the Guishan Island.
pic 9.
The pool area is composed of a swimming pool, aerobic pool and a miniature Tour of the Rivers. The pool has an average depth of 120cm; the aerobic pool is a children’s playground and can also be used for fitness training. The Tour of Rivers area is an epitome of the Lanyang Creek specially designed to introduce the beauty of Lanyang’s waters to the visitors.
pic 10. Everyone’s dream of cruising the Dongshan River has now finally come true. On June 13, 2004, the waterway from Dongshan River Water Park to the Taiwan Theater Museum was finally opened. pic Third stop: Tofu Cape (Su-Ao)
  Tofu Cape
The panoramic Tofu Cape is a natural ocean park, highly suitable for wading, snorkeling, picnicking and swimming. There are no Tofu rocks in this area, nor is the town famous for the food tofu .Why then is this place called Tofu Cape? A photo, taken 35 years ago, reveals the secret. In the later years of the Japanese Colonial Period, construction of the

Nanfang Ao Channel had just commenced. When the war started, construction was abandoned, so after the Republic Government took over, two blocks of gate bases that looked like two giant pieces of tofu were left standing by the port. This is how the name of this area came about. The two blocks of the water gates were meant to control the access of fishing boats. The Ilan County Government turned the beach between the two giant rocks into a natural beach park and built the place into a seashore Coliseum with long sheds and stone steps. The beach at Tofu Cape is safe with small waves. It is also a favorite summer spot for barbeques and family outings.

Recently however, researchers conducted a survey on the coral reefs in this area. Researchers found that the coral reefs located at three to ten meters under the water are dying or have become bleached. Only 5% of the coral (and 10% to 20% last year) that is located 10 meters underwater and 25% of the coral (35% last year) located at 5 meters under the water and below is surviving. Visitors to this area should treasure these coral reefs. Please give the coral reefs some air to breath by not littering the sea.
